Common questions
FIRE to IRIS converter FAQ
Can I convert an IRS FIRE file to IRIS XML online?
Yes. This browser-based FIRE to IRIS converter reads 2026 tax data in the legacy TY2025 Publication 1220 layout, maps their fixed-width 1099 records to IRIS XML, checks the generated file against the TY2026 IRIS format, and enables a local download.
Does the converter upload my tax data?
No. Parsing, XML generation, and format checking run in your browser. The converter does not send the FIRE file, generated XML, filename, TINs, names, addresses, or amounts to FireToIris.com or BoomTax.
Which FIRE form types are supported?
The TY2026 converter supports original domestic returns for Forms 1099-A, 1099-B, 1099-C, 1099-CAP, 1099-DIV, 1099-G, 1099-INT, 1099-K, 1099-LS, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-OID, 1099-PATR, 1099-Q, 1099-R, 1099-S, 1099-SA, and 1099-SB, plus valid CF/SF coding and reconciled K records for eligible forms. New TY2026 fields absent from FIRE require review: 1099-NEC tips and overtime, the 1099-S cash and digital-asset breakdown, and the required 1099-R Trump-account indicator (0 is a preview placeholder).
Is the downloaded XML already filed with the IRS?
No. The download is an IRIS XML file for review and use in a filing workflow. Filing is a separate transmission process with credentials, authentication, acknowledgments, and acceptance checks.
Can I validate IRIS XML that I already have?
Yes. Use BoomTax's free IRS IRIS XML validator to check an existing TY2026 XML file in your browser.
